Hurry up, Jeff Bezos! I Want to Live In An O’Neill Cylinder!

I think I want to live in Wynchester.

Either that, or Starbase Yorktown, from the Star Trek: Beyond movie.

Yorktown looks like the perfect futuristic city.  I think it’s one of the best things about this entire movie.  And I just love, love, love the transporter booths dotted along the city streets in one of the scenes — they remind me (just a little) of the old glass phone booths that once dotted our city streets.  And yeah, I’m old enough to remember them.

Wynchester, in the Iron Hammer series, is a different sort of space station.  I designed it based upon the O’Neill Cylinder design, with a few tweaks of my own.  Jeff Bezos, the owner of Amazon, is a huge fan of O’Neill Cylinders, and wants to build one.  I’m absolutely in!

I love Yorktown, but I like the idea of Wynchester, too.  Wynchester is…well, greener.  And I don’t know about you, but the one thing that makes me nervous about Yorktown is that all-over dome exterior, which looks extraordinarily vulnerable.  And when you read the opening of Stellar Storm, you’ll see exactly what I mean!

Wynchester features a lot in this book, and I have a feeling we’ll be back there in the future, too.

Stellar Storm is released today on all bookstores.

Danny and her crew expose a new enemy

Danny and her crew on the Supreme Lythion, and her friends and allies in the Carina worlds learn more about the Slavers and their appetite for war.

When slavers raid a Carina star station and snatch more of their people, Jai Van Veen directs Danny to return the favour—steal into Slaver territory and take their people back.  Only the quasi-military venture reveals more about the threatening nature of their new enemy than anyone is braced for…
